King, or Queen, of the Grill

Who is manning the grill today? Is there always a fight for the last bratwurst at your BBQ? If you are using our Premium Bratwurst Sausage Seasoning, Blend 170, we can tell you why! It’s the delicious combination of sweet and warm spices, including nutmeg, that makes this traditional sausage, with roots from Wisconsin, a hit.

Today we take nutmeg for granted, but our ancestors paid the price for its popularity. Throughout the 15th-17th centuries, nutmeg became the most coveted spice of the Spice Trade because of its exotic appeal to the wealthy in other countries-Europeans, especially. Heavily used in cuisine and beverages at Medieval banquets, nutmeg was regarded as a status symbol.

A two-in-one spice, nutmeg develops as a single brown kernel within the fruit (like an apricot) of an evergreen tree called Myristica fragrans. Inside the kernel is the seed, which is encased in crimson-colored, thread-like arils know as the spice mace. These sister spices share a sweet, aromatic flavor, making them ideal ingredients for pies, doughnuts, cakes, vegetable dishes and our Premium Bratwurst Sausage Seasoning, Blend 170.

We hope that the nutmeg in our delicious Premium Bratwurst Sausage Seasoning doesn’t lead to a battle for the last bratwurst at your BBQ, but we are sure you will be named the Grill King, or Queen, when dinner is done.
